The focus of the
carnival is participation. To
encourage this participation points are awarded for entering an event.
We encourage all students who are capable swimmers to give it a go, and
we encourage all students to vocally support their sporting house
throughout the day. It is also the first opportunity for the House
Captains and Vice Captains to hone their leadership skills.
To facilitate this the carnival
will be divided into two groups. The children may compete in only one
of the groups.
Either GROUP A or GROUP B.
GROUP A
Competitive events – for those children with special interest and
ability in swimming. The district swimming team will be selected from
this category. Races will be 50 metres.
GROUP B
25 metre events in the shallow half of
the pool. For those not yet expert but who wish to compete in freestyle
and kickboard races. Points awarded contribute to the overall point
score.

The
second purpose of the carnival is to select a team to represent our
school at the zone swimming carnival. It is an honour for any student to
represent their school. However, to choose this team we are bound by
technical stroke guidelines and time criteria. Therefore a competitor
who is giving it a go in breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke may be
unable to progress to the zone carnival if their stroke is technically
incorrect. Likewise a swimmer who may win or places second in one of our
freestyle events may not be eligible to progress to the zone because of
the qualifying time.
